NOTABLE ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department has very active and strong international collaboration. Prof. Bhavanath Jha, Head of the Department, is at preset Co-ordinator of two Indo-German Cooperation in Science and Technology (Biotechnology) Research Projects, sponsored by German Ministry of Science and Technology, Bonn, Germany. The Department of Biotechnology has received sophisticated equipment and fine chemicals worth several lakhs of rupees from the German Government. Under the framework of our bilateral co-operation, there has been extensive visits of Experts/Scientists from Germany to the Department and vice-versa.

SEMINARS/SYMPOSIA ORGANISED

In March 1997 Prof. Alfred Ahne, Head, Molecular Radiobiology Division, GSF, Neuherberge, Munich and Dr. Mrs. Ahne were in the Department for one week to deliver lectures and to impart training in the field of Recombinant DNA Technology. In continuation of this process, Prof. AMS Abdul Moghni, Vice Chancellor and Prof. Bhavanath Jha, Head of the Department, visited the National Research Centre for Environment and Health, Munich, Germany in August 1997. The Department of Biotechnology also organised a workshop/laboratory course on the topic 'DNA Finger Printing by PCR ' in December 1997. During this course, Dr. Stephan Leibhard and Dr. Hans Leibhard from National Research Centre, Munich, Germany were the main speakers.
